Basil Simos was born in Lamia in 1934. He was the son of iconographer Simon Simos from Ypati. He began his studies at the Athens School of Fine Art (1952-1955) under Yiannis Moralis. In 1955, on a scholarship by the Spanish government, he continued his studies at the San Fernando Fine Art Royal Academy in Madrid (1955-1960), under the apprenticeship of Joaquín Valverde Lasarte. He returned to Greece in 1960 and completed his studies at the Athens School of Fine Art, gaining a degree in Painting and Theoretical and Historical studies (1960-1961). From 1963 to 1987, he worked as an art teacher in secondary education in Lamia. He presented his work in solo exhibitions in Greece and Spain. He took part in five Panhellenic Exhibitions at Zappeion, and several group exhibitions in Greece and internationally. He contributed to the exhibitions of the Association of Visual Artists of Central Greece (SKETKE). In 1997, a retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Municipal Art Gallery of Lamia “Alekos Kontopoulos”. In 2008, his book “Χρώμα και Μνήμες” (Colour and Memories) was published by Oionos Books. Works of his are in the collections of the National Gallery, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Municipal Art Gallery of Larisa – GI Katsigras Museum, the Municipality of Lamia, the Piraeus Marine Club, the Kotopouli Museum, the Municipality of Zografos, the Municipality of Stavroupoli, and private collections in Greece and abroad. He died in Lamia in 2014.
