Vangelis Gkinis (1984) lives and works as a photographer in the city of Elefsina. He has been experimenting with photography since childhood. He has participated with photographs and videos in many collective exhibitions in Greece and in other countries as well. Several of his photographs have been awarded distinctions in not only national, but also international photography contests. He has conducted solo exhibitions at the Municipal Gallery “Leonidas Kanellopoulos” in Elefsina (2014) and at the Museum “Kresow” in the city of Lubaczow, Poland (2016). In 2015, in collaboration with the residents of Elefsina and in the framework of the refugee crisis, he conducted the public intervention called “Project Home” in the refugee neighbourhood of Asia Minorians. In 2017, in his effort to expand the social utility of the art of photography, he organised and curated the “5 Kilometres to the West”, a collective photographic work of seven refugee teenagers who were staying at the refugee camp of Elefsina.
