‘Amicale’ in French means an association of members who share value of helping each other. It comes from the word ‘ami’ that means ‘friend’. L'amicale Mille-Feux (a thousand fires) is a group mainly composed of artists located in Lacelle, a village of 80 inhabitants on the plateau of ‘millevaches‘(a thousand cows) in central France. As a meeting point of the group of a dozen people is a big house, in front of a small train station that the Amical invested in and rebuild little by little. Three artists of the Amical; Clement Boudin, Tatiana Pozzo di Borgo, Hervé Priou use oil painting as a mean to testimony their everyday life. The subjects that they use are mostly ‘reachable’. Potatoes, vegetables, tools, working gloves and mobile phone photography. Noucmas invited them to change environment, to come to work for one month in the heated Athens, in the middle of an area called Kypseli, which means beehive in greek. Everything is different, from the winter sunshine to the rhythm of the city, from the vegetation to the people and the language. If the whole environment changes, where does the eye stop? Does the painting transform? Noucmas is happy to present ‘Huiles’ (Oils), an exhibition that concludes the residency and that is also a first step of an exchange and a collaboration between L'amicale mille feux and Noucmas.
