Under the ceiling, above the ground is the second part of the Walking Backwards - exhibition opportunity program, following the first solo show of Evgenia Ioannidou in June 2021, the duo composed by Christos Papasotiriou and Natalia Domínguez have worked together towards a group exhibition titled "Under the ceiling, above the ground" from the 6th till the 22nd of October
“Under the ceiling, above the ground” is a collaborative work by Christos Papasotiriou and Natalia Domínguez. The project is a site-specific installation that displays architectural and ornamental details collected from the neighbourhood of Kypseli. It focuses on how various neoclassical buildings get affected by the consequences of natural friction and the damages occurred from human intervention. Through this installation, the artists present aesthetic changes that many areas in the city face due to gentrification and fast expansion of the urban landscape. The work aims to create a dialogue between classical and contemporary constructional applications and the way these two elements are able to coexist in the same environment.
Natalia Domínguez is a Spanish artist which work analysis the “idiomatic” aspects of our reality and the ways we approach them. By the use of sound, voice and sculpture she builds coded symbolic landscapes in which every element turns into a “meaning container”, a representation of a series of characteristics that tell us about the object itself but also about the qualities with insert in them. Her work has been exhibited in Matadero Madrid, PIVÔ Brasil and CAC Málaga (among several galleries and institutions) and she has taken part in various Art Residency Programs such as: El Ranchito Brasil, Centro de Creación Contemporánea C3A (Córdoba), Fundación BilbaoArte, Hangar (Barcelona) and La Escocesa (Barcelona).
Christos Papasotiriou is a Greek artist working in between Athens and Barcelona. His work focuses on the notion of manufacture displayed into a broad human network. Through installations he attempts to interpret constructions, images and sounds dragged out of the public landscape. Each artwork emerges from external experiences and situations related always to a specific environment. His work has been exhibited in Museum of contemporary art of Genalguacil “Fernando Centero López” Malaga, “Affordable Art Fair” Brussels and Gallery 88 Antwerp and he has taken part in various Art Residency Programs such as: “XV Encuentros de Arte de Genalguacil 2020” Malaga (Spain), "Resonance” Lizières (France) and “Epitopou” Andros (Greece).
