Fleeting cityscapes denoting loneliness that leaves an uncertain trail in memory. Shapes indeterminate being trapped in light or darkness. Random glances at the silent images kick off an inner, personal journey.
Ifigeneia Apostolopoulou Visual artist
"The latest work of the artist, continuing in the context of the expressionist manner that distinguishes her work so far, deals with the mute imprint that the modern urban architecture leaves on the mind. Elusive volumes, instant reflections and mysterious refractions compose images familiar but at the same time eerie, solid but intangible together. The human figure absent but the buildings present, imposing and yet menacing, dominate the canvas. Like spectators in the coupe of some train travelling at breakneck speed, we are left to the fleeting view of the landscape outside to carry us on an innermost journey of search. Stimuli that the painter draws from the tangible reality that surrounds us are transmuted, transformed and finally manifested in a living painting expression without restrictive realistic outlines. Abstract writing prevails without ever abandoning the traditional descriptiveness of the subject. The fallacy of the temporary, the illusion of the ephemeral is recorded in each gestural stroke of the brush focusing the viewer's gaze on a misty web of memory, impressions and experiences. Figurative thinking gives the dominant role to color and not to drawing, making the senses as the sole recipient of the messages of Ifigeneia Apostolopoulou's works. The warm color palette eloquently renders the foci of inspiration of the artist. Penetrating painting, intensely introspective and daring design give birth to works of intense aesthetic pleasure and social reflection on the loneliness of modern cities.»
