In his lifetime, he suffered from unreality…
once dead, he is not even the ghost he was then
Jorge Luis Borges, TLÖN, UQBAR, ORBIS TERTIUS
In the world of Tlön1 there are literally no nouns. Objects there are not named but described in a verbal form, in a narrative and in a not at all unambiguous way. Human and other forms, seem to coexist in a constant condition of strange coordination.
In Tlön the tool of language would seem broken to us, and the same goes for space. They do not conceive that the spatial persists in time. The Universe, for the natives of Jorge Luis Borges’ imaginary world, is a series of mental processes.
In our universe on the other hand, things have a name, a reason to exist and a duration. They are useful, efficient and usable, till the exhaustion of usable stocks. We must decide - because we can, living in a polarized, by a self-fulfilling prophecy of the future, present.
Turned into performance machines, we move the gears of the active, efficient super-engine we’ve built in order to be free. Somewhat like in our internet searches, we have the freedom to choose any click we want, from the ones chosen by the Company’s algorithm, for us.
"The Machine In the Ghost" calls for the de-signification, the change of the registered function. Of course thit is, something that art has always done, is doing and will continue doing.
The exhibition’s opening is on January 20 and will last until the 19th of March. During this time, works by a total of 18 artists will alternate in Talc Studio’s space, constantly creating new places.
