« I guess Athens is one of the few places I can feel the blood flowing. From the inside to the outside. From the past to the present. From the present to a future we have no fucking idea what it means. It's wild and concentrated at the same time. »
After his show at Terzo Fronte in Rome, H U M A N O N L Y, Adriano Costa presents his second collaboration with us, A N Y.B L O O D.?, inaugurating our new temporary space in Athens. He is presenting paintings and installations, specifically produced for the apartment.
« I guess the flat is a nano representation of the world. It makes us to think about what means receiving and giving back a possible response to the today. ( that's a very anthropophagic stuff... how to see a place or situation that it does not belong to me and finally to understand what is expelled. »
We propose to the artist the experience of a passage, from Rome to Athens, from a landscape to another. We drove and sail from Italy and Greece, producing a movie, Please Don't Leave Me Alone, directed by Molly Ledoux, that narrates this passage. The film will be premiered during the exhibition.
Production: Annie Maurette, Oliva Sartogo
Adriano Costa (1975, São Paulo) lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Igniting a tension between humour and the political, Adriano Costa exposes the nuances of the cultural value systems placed on objects. Costa provokes a reflection on the real value of works of art, addressing the question of how ordinary materials or even noble materials can be transmuted in an art object and vice versa.
His solo exhibitions include The Philosophy of the World, Mendes Wood DM Bruxelles, 2022; ROCKWHORESHOW, Nuno Centeno, Porto (2019); wetANDsomeOLDstuffVANDALIZEDbyTHEartist, Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne (2018); B A I L E, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo (2018);
Terzo Fronte is a curatorial program initiated in Rome in the summer of 2021 and which develops today its programming in Athens too. Founded by Georgia René-Worms, artist and curator, and Colin Ledoux, writer and director, Terzo Fronte borrows its functioning from literature: it is built as an editorial project whose programming is written collectively chapter by chapter with the artists invited.
It sees itself as an active laboratory of exchange, connection and circulation between different art scenes, exploring the ecosystems of narrative and the functioning of contemporary art. Its programming unfolds in two apartments, the first located in the San Lorenzo neighbourhood in Rome and the second in Βοτανικός, Athens.
